After working outside, collecting green waste, I sat at my computer to take a break. I ended up with a cat asleep on my lap in no time, which is quite common at my house. I don’t mind that my lap ends up being a kitty bed. It gives me an excuse to sit.
I checked my blogs and noticed on this one that it was over a year ago that I wrote anything. I remember the last post as if it was yesterday. I had been watching the ceremonies for the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Now I sit here and reflect on the fact that more than a year has gone by since I wrote that post.
When my life was going well, I was continually amazed at the amount of energy I had. I always had a trip planned to somewhere. The trip I took to France in April 2013 was a huge source of life energy for me. Shortly after my move to Washington State fell through in December 2013, my marriage took a turn for the worse. It never did completely recover and I don’t think it ever will. With everything that has gone on over the past 18 months, I feel like I have aged 20 years.
There are 2 things that are sustaining me right now; the short trips I’ve been taking and the 2 cats, mine and my wife’s. So far this year, I’ve been back to Washington State twice, to Phoenix for baseball spring training, and I spent 5 days on the big island of Hawaii. If airfare wasn’t so expensive to Hawaii, I’d probably be going there more often.
I have 3 more trips to Washington State planned for July, September and October. I have replaced my requirement of always having a trip planned to some far away destination with a requirement that I always have a trip planned to Western Washington. Even though I didn’t move there, it still feels like visiting home when I travel there. I’m hoping to plan a trip to some far off destination for 2016, that is if I can find the energy.
